You might drive by it every day and not be aware. Bailey Riverbridge Gardens is situated off North Beach Street in Ormond Beach, just as you approach the Granada Boulevard (S.R. 40) bridge. Named after former mayor Charles Bailey, this attraction is a perennial favorite for visitors and locals alike.

In addition to being nationally recognized for its historic significance, picnic tables and benches here make it a popular spot in which to have a snack, enjoy pleasant conversation, or simply relax on a nice day. Read on to learn more about the gardens, and how Ormond Beach continues to honor the past, while looking toward the future.

Know the History

This 2.6-acre riverfront park has made its mark in Central Florida history, and that of the United States as a whole. Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church was the site of the very first Christian wedding in North America. Now owned by the Ormond Beach Historic Trust, the church is still used today for meetings, weddings, family reunions, and other functions.

At any time of the day, however, residents and visitors are welcome to tour the aesthetic grounds, which feature an elegant fountain and colorful native plants, flowers, and vegetation. Free on-site parking is available. In addition, a paved walkway meanders under the Granada Boulevard bridge, offering spectacular views of local scenery.

Several benches are situated along the walkway, making it easy to take a load off or pause and reflect on the majestic beauty of the area. Anglers will be happy to know that fishing is also permitted. In fact, many people count this region as one of their favorite fishing spots.

Recognize the Significance

In an era where cities across the country are razing historic buildings and destroying natural areas in the name of progress, it’s nice to see that some things remain unchanged. Bailey Riverbridge Gardens received a beautification award from the City of Ormond Beach in 2016. Volunteers spent many hours sprucing up the grounds and exterior of the building.

The Seaside Herb Society still maintains the on-site herb garden. Originally designed in 1998, volunteers breathed new life into the “hidden garden” in 2014. Today, it features more than 14 varieties of herbs. Four of those plants were revived from the original garden. An annual plant sale helps with garden maintenance.

Mark Special Occasions

As mentioned, this site has long been a favorite for unique and special programs and events. From weddings, to family reunions, and more, people gather daily to enjoy the aesthetic beauty of the grounds, which also serve as the perfect backdrop for photos. It’s not uncommon to see people taking engagement pictures, posing with newborn babies, or simply marking an enjoyable day spent with friends and loved ones.

Through the years, this has also become a favorite proposal spot. You might witness the beauty of love in action while strolling through the gardens. You just never know what you’re going to find in this quiet haven amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

Discover Your Ideal Spot

Bailey Riverbridge Gardens is just one the many interesting spots you’ll find in and around Ormond Beach. Other popular attractions include The Casements, Ormond Beach Memorial Art Museum, the historic Fairchild Oak inside Bulow Creek State Park, and much more.
