Go Ahead and Compare

05.22.2016

NEW VS USED

Just as you would compare tax rates and school districts when thinking about buying a new home, the smart shopper will also compare HERS Ratings.

Developed by the Residential Energy Services Network, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index is the industry standard for measuring a home’s energy efficiency.

HERS Index scores fall on a scale between 0 and 150.  The lower the score, the more energy efficient the home.

Home buyers can make a more informed decision by simply comparing the HERS Index Score of one home to another.

The Benefits are Amazing

BETTER VALUE.   High performing, energy efficient homes exceed energy performance requirements of current building codes, and meet a higher standard of environmental responsibility.

SAVINGS.  With less energy and water use, expect reduced utility bills and lower maintenance costs.

COMFORT.  Energy efficient homes offer healthier indoor air quality and more consistent temperatures.

QUALITY:  Homeowners receive a more durable home through improved building materials and techniques.

All of Vanacore Homes undergo a rigorous, third party review by an independent energy rating firm.  Quality assurance tests are conducted to verify that each home conforms to achieve efficiency goals.  When all is said and done, a tight home and air duct system equals less air leaking to the outside, and less infiltration of outside air into the home.

Good information, but let’s talk about the bottom line.

Well, if a new home scores a 70, it is calculated to perform 30% more efficiently than a standard, code built new home.

The national average of a HERS rated, new construction home is 70.  The typical, existing (resale) home has a HERS Index Score of 130.

VANACORE HOMES ARE AVERAGING IN THE 50’S AND LOW 60’S.

We invite you to compare. Ask other builders to prove their HERS rating.  Then give us a call.  We are ready to build your dream home!
